Some time ago I had a talk with a client that I’ve worked with for a couple of months. He lost a significant amount of weight and felt a like a different person in many other ways.
😔 However, he DREADED his upcoming birthday.
👇🏻 This is how that conversation roughly went:
—–
Me: ‘You seem annoyed about your upcoming birthday… why?’
Client: ‘It reminds me I’m getting old’
Me: ‘Why do you feel like that?’
Client: ‘Because every year my body is deteriorating a little more’
Me: ‘That doesn’t sound like a reason to celebrate’
Client: ‘No, it’s quite a downer…’
Me: ‘Do you feel like your body is still deteriorating at this moment?’
Client: 🤔

Client: ‘No, I actually feel as good as I did years ago’
Client: ‘Moreover, I’m even at the same weight as before’
Me: ‘So why would you then dislike that you’re aging?’

Client: ‘I’m beginning to think that doesn’t make sense anymore…’

🧙♂️ And so, the spell was broken.
I’ve experienced that a lot of the associations we’ve come to relate to aging, are self-inflicted; and hence 👉🏻 controllable.
Personally, I have 0️⃣ negative feelings related to aging (besides worn out joints from overtraining in a stupid way). If you maintain a high level of energy, don’t gain weight, maintain your muscles and feel hyper-focused, there is little to remind you of the negative process of aging.
You can also feel like this IF you decide to make it work.
Perhaps this could be your reminder that:
✅ Your body DOESN’T have to deteriorate
✅ Your birthdays DON’T have to s#ck
Curious to hear:
🙋♀️ Do you think the trend-line in your head about your physical state kills your birthday vibe?
